STATEMENT: CAP President Neera Tanden Thanks Sen. Harry Reid for His Decades of Service
Washington, D.C. — Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden released the following statement after Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced he will end his 30 years in the U.S. Senate at the end of his current term.
Sen. Reid has spent more than three decades fighting for Nevadan and American families as if they were his own, bringing his own life story of struggle and hard work to the Senate with him each day. Reid’s own story is proof of what ordinary people can achieve when they have access to opportunity, which is why he strives each day in the Senate to open the doors of success to every American.
Whether he is working to pass policies that help hardworking families achieve the American Dream, fighting to keep immigrant families together, or protecting our environment and public lands for future generations, there has been no better ally and no stronger voice in the U.S. Senate than Harry Reid. The mark he has left in the Capitol will be remembered for years to come, as will his quiet but tough brand of leadership. We thank him for his years of service to Nevada and to our country and look forward to continuing this work with him over the next 22 months.
