Washington, D.C. — Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden issued the following statement today after the Obama administration announced the search for a CEO and chief technology officer for the Affordable Care Act’s, or ACA’s, federal and state marketplaces. In May, CAP issued a report calling for the creation of a CEO position to oversee the marketplace’s transition away from its initial roll-out phase.
Today’s announcement that the administration is beginning the search for a permanent CEO to manage the federal and state exchanges is an important step to ensure the success of the ACA. Under this structure, a single leader will be empowered and accountable for further implementation of the program, as well as able to provide a singular vision for its future. This announcement closely mirrors CAP’s own policy recommendations and shows decisive leadership from new Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
