Washington, D.C. — Today, the United States Supreme Court announced that it will review the Affordable Care Act. Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden released the following statement:
With the Supreme Court considering the Eleventh Circuit’s deeply erroneous decision striking down part of the Affordable Care Act, I am confident that the law will be upheld in its entirety. As the iconic conservative judge Laurence Silberman explained just last week, these lawsuits have no real support “in either the text of the Constitution or Supreme Court precedent.” Rather, they are nothing more than an attempt to rewrite the Constitution to thwart national solutions to national problems. I have every confidence that the nation’s highest court will reject this transparent attempt to declare war on the text of the Constitution in an unprecedented act of judicial activism.
