STATEMENT: CAP President Neera Tanden on Lynch Confirmation After Months of Delay

Washington, D.C. — Today, upon Loretta Lynch’s confirmation as U.S. attorney general, Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden released the following statement:

Today’s vote to confirm Loretta Lynch as the next U.S. attorney general is a historic moment for our country, as Lynch becomes the first African American woman to hold this key position. Lynch’s confirmation comes at a time when leadership from the Department of Justice is vital to the work of rebuilding trust in many of our communities. While Loretta Lynch’s confirmation was delayed far too long, we welcome her historic leadership of the Justice Department, which remains the main enforcer of our civil rights laws.

Attorney General Eric Holder has spent the past six years fighting for justice for all Americans, and his leadership will be missed. Loretta Lynch’s many years of experience position her to continue the vital work and leadership as the country’s next attorney general.
