"The D.C. Council’s 11-2 vote in support of marriage equality for same-sex couples is very encouraging. Although the bill needs to be voted on one more time before Mayor Fenty can sign it, its passage yesterday demonstrated that Washington, D.C., is committed to the full equality of all its residents. I hope Congress—which has oversight of D.C.’s laws—respects the decision local lawmakers have made, and allows the law to be fully implemented in 2010."
