STATEMENT: CAP Endorses Legislation To Reverse Impact of Supreme Court Ruling on Public Agencies

Washington, D.C. — Today, in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Corner Post v. Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Subcommittee on Administrative Law, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust Ranking Member Lou Correa (D-CA) introduced the Corner Post Reversal Act. The legislation would reverse the harmful effects of the Supreme Court’s ruling by reestablishing a limit to when private interests and big corporations can challenge rules that protect consumers, the workforce, and the environment. In response, Devon Ombres, senior director for Courts and Legal Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

The Center for American Progress strongly endorses this legislation. The Supreme Court’s Corner Post ruling upended 80 years of judicial precedent and statutory guidance. The court’s overreach will destabilize the small-business community and strip public agencies of the power to protect Americans from all manner of nefarious acts. Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle should support this measure to stop the damage wrought by the court before it takes root.
