Washington, D.C. — Today, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed an executive order kick-starting the state’s clean vehicle programs, including initiating an Advanced Clean Cars III program and reaffirming the Clean Truck Partnership, hours after President Donald Trump signed a trio of Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolutions seeking to overturn the state’s car and truck pollution standards. California and 10 other states have sued the Trump administration over these CRA resolutions, which would harm Americans’ health and finances. California’s Advanced Clean Cars II program was set to save more than 1,000 lives and save Californians more than $90 billion by 2040. With 13 other states and Washington, D.C., following California’s lead and adopting the standard, these benefits were set to dramatically expand.

California is standing up for its citizens in the face of President Trump’s overreach and oil industry pressure. State-driven clean car and truck programs are essential to driving U.S. innovation and delivering affordable, low- and zero-emission vehicles that lower costs for households and reduce air pollution. In the face of hostile federal leadership that risks the United States falling behind global competition, it is essential that states continue to make progress on clean vehicles, which are a win for Americans’ health, pocketbooks and workforce. This is especially important to California, which is a hub of clean vehicle manufacturing and has seen tremendous growth in electric vehicle sales.
