Advancing Racial Equity and Justice, Immigration
Washington, D.C. — Just ahead of May 11, when the cruel and ineffective Title 42 order is scheduled to come to a long-overdue end, president and CEO of CAP, Patrick Gaspard, co-authored a column bringing attention to the options ahead of us in this consequential moment.
The piece implores the Biden administration to focus resources to implement effective and humane policies to manage migration; address the root causes of irregular migration; ignore right-wing attempts to politicize immigration; create more legal pathways; and support communities that host asylum seekers in cities across the United States.
“As we applaud the end of this inhumane policy, we must also begin to chart a more effective and humane approach to immigration and the ever-evolving situation at the border” said Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of CAP. “With the end of Title 42, the Biden Administration has an opportunity to reassess how we confront the root causes of migration and administer our immigration system in a way that also upholds our values.”
