RELEASE: Weadé James Joins Center for American Progress as Senior Director of K-12 Education Policy

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress announced that Weadé James, alumna of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), has joined CAP as senior director of K-12 Education Policy. In this role, James will oversee CAP’s efforts to develop and communicate new K-12 educational policy solutions, guided by the organization’s mission to improve the lives of all Americans through bold, progressive ideas.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Dr. James to the team as our new senior director for K-12 Education Policy. She brings with her a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to improving our nation’s education system,” said Jared Bass, senior vice president for Education at CAP.

Prior to joining CAP, James spent more than four years with the AACTE, where she most recently held the title of vice president of organizational advancement. She previously served as the regional director for The Literacy Lab and spent seven years working for Advocates for Justice and Education Inc., including as its executive director. She earned her Ph.D. in education from Virginia Commonwealth University and holds a master’s degree in educational administration and policy from Howard University.
