Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress released fact sheets for all 50 states and the District of Columbia breaking down how much the Trump administration’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) will drive up costs for families across the country. CAP also released a national fact sheet detailing the harms to all Americans. These fact sheets review how the largest-ever cuts to programs that help Americans meet their basic needs will affect families, particularly the most vulnerable. These state fact sheets answer the following questions on how the OBBBA will affect each state:
- How does the OBBBA affect Medicaid and the cost of health care? The OBBBA will kick approximately 15 million people off their health insurance across the United States due to the largest-ever cuts to Medicaid and Affordable Care Act marketplace changes that will occur over the next decade from this law.
- How does the OBBBA increase food costs for lower-income families? The OBBBA will implement the largest cut to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in history and add more red tape for people who are eligible. 3.5 million people across the United States will be at risk of losing some of their SNAP benefits as a result. But harm isn’t limited to those who use SNAP: More than 27,000 grocery stores that serve large shares of SNAP recipients are at risk of financial instability.
- How does the OBBBA increase energy costs? The OBBBA will force families to pay more for electricity, gasoline, and energy-efficient home improvements. On average, families will increase their electricity costs by $120 per year starting in 2026, and Americans will spend, on average, $200 more on gasoline annually by 2030.
- How does the OBBBA increase borrowing costs? The OBBBA will leave Americans paying higher mortgage costs and increased costs for small-business loans as well as making more expensive student loan payments.
“The One Big Beautiful Bill Act is increasing costs for families, who are already being squeezed by President Donald Trump’s reckless trade wars,” said Lily Roberts, managing director for Inclusive Growth at CAP. “This bill will make it harder for families to put food on the table, access the health care they need, and pay utility bills so that billionaires and special interests can reap even more unnecessary tax breaks. Congress should roll back the devastating cuts to programs that support Americans’ basic needs and that are driving up the cost of living.”
