Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress announced that Viviann Anguiano has joined CAP as managing director of Higher Education Policy.
Anguiano is a national education policy leader with nearly 15 years of experience shaping federal and local initiatives to expand educational opportunity. Most recently, she served as director of education to President Joe Biden at the White House Domestic Policy Council, where she oversaw the administration’s signature higher education achievements, including providing student loan forgiveness to more than 5 million Americans.
Previously, Anguiano served on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee as deputy director of education to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and senior policy adviser to Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA). She also helped establish Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago, a groundbreaking institution dedicated to serving first-generation and low-income students. Her career includes previous roles in advocacy at CAP in addition to several nonprofit organizations in California.
“Viviann has spent years working to advance educational outcomes for students and borrowers,” said Jared Bass, senior vice president for Education at CAP. “I’m looking forward to seeing how her experience will help inform CAP’s positive agenda for strengthening college access and affordability.”
Anguiano earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Loyola University Chicago and a master’s degree in education policy and management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. A proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and a first-generation college graduate, she is deeply committed to expanding opportunities for all students across the nation.
