Washington, D.C. — About half of all river miles in the West have been damaged by human development, according to a groundbreaking new analysis from the Center for American Progress and Conservation Science Partners.
The report will the topic of a webinar on Wednesday, February 7, at 2:30 p.m. ET, with Sen. Tom Udall (D-NM) and experts to discuss how these waterways are affected by dams, abandoned mines, irrigation, development in floodplains, and other activities—pushing fish and wildlife populations to extinction and endangering local communities and jobs in the process.
The analysis is embargoed until release on Wednesday, February 7. It includes a website with links to state fact sheets, as well as an interactive map.
