Washington, D.C. – American democracy is being hollowed out from within as President Donald Trump’s administration rapidly erodes our institutions and consolidates unprecedented powers in ways that hurt the American people.
The Trump administration is actively attacking judicial and legislative checks and balances, weaponizing law enforcement to engage in politically motivated investigations and prosecutions, and strong-arming independent media and civic institutions into bending to the president’s will. The deployment of federal forces and the military in American cities is just one of the most recent examples of a rapid escalation of the administration’s authoritarian policies that must be dealt with head-on.
Sen. Adam Schiff is working to strengthen America’s national security and system of checks and balances. He was instrumental in investigating the January 6 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol. His leadership has proven crucial in navigating the backsliding of our democracy while pushing for critically important reforms that would build a stronger and more accountable system.
Please join the Center for American Progress for a conversation with Sen. Schiff moderated by CAP President and CEO Neera Tanden. It is featured as part of CAP’s series “What’s Next: Conversations on the Path Forward,” which brings leaders to CAP to offer ideas on how to respond to this moment.
