Emily R. Gee is the senior vice president for Economic Policy and a senior fellow for the Health Policy department at American Progress. In her role, she oversees the Economic Policy department’s research, policy development, and advocacy to improve economic mobility and drive economic growth. She was previously American Progress’ senior vice president for Inclusive Growth and vice president for Health Policy, leading the organization’s efforts across health care and public health.

Prior to joining American Progress, Gee was an economist in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she worked on implementation of the Affordable Care Act. She also served as an economist on the staff of the Council of Economic Advisers in the Obama White House.

She is a frequent commentator on economic policy and the economics of health care. She has been quoted and her work has been cited in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Politico, Marketplace, and other outlets.

Gee holds a Ph.D. in economics from Boston University and an A.B. in government from Harvard College. She is originally from Washington state.
