This year represents a crucial moment for progress. The passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the CHIPS and Science Act (CHIPS), and Justice 40 mark tremendous and transformative investments in jobs, health, infrastructure, manufacturing, and clean energy. These investments provide a unique once in a lifetime opportunity to rethink how the government and industry can work for racial equity and justice and an inclusive economy.
To invigorate our thinking for new ideas and possibilities, this panel will focus on how we can use these funds to overcome barriers of the past by discussing job creation and workforce development, minority business opportunities and challenges, and community-wealth building approaches. With major transformations in the economy caused by climate change, sweeping technological change, and supply chain vulnerabilities, all being addressed by recent large scale federal investments, it is an opportune time to develop new strategies for Black economic advancement.
