The U.S. Supreme Court’s impact on Americans’ everyday lives has never been more evident. In recent terms, the high court has dismantled women’s rights, gutted voting and environmental protections, and elevated presidents above the rule of law. This term, the court is poised to further roll back the progress we have made in the last century. What rights are at risk in this term’s cases, and how should the Supreme Court be reformed to ensure a more balanced and ethical bench that adheres to the Constitution?
Join the Center for American Progress, Third Way, and Court Accountability for The Future of American Rule of Law: The 2024 SCOTUS Term and the Need for Reforms. The first panel, moderated by Mark Joseph Stern of Slate, will look at the threats to the rule of law and Americans’ hard-fought rights posed by the Supreme Court in the wake of unprecedented decisions in the 2023 term. The second panel, moderated by CAP’s Senior Director for Courts and Legal Policy Devon Ombres, will feature distinguished experts addressing the need for both structural and procedural reforms to the Supreme Court and lower courts to shore up the foundations of the judiciary.
