Please join the Center for American Progress for a live, semi-staged reading of a brand-new, topical play, “IMPOSED,” which explores how the unchecked use of technology can cause real harm to innocent people, leaving them with no recourse and an endless sense of continued vulnerability.
“IMPOSED” tells the story of two young women living in Washington, D.C., who discover that artificial intelligence (AI)-generated explicit content depicting their likeness is being circulated online. As they rush to discover who is responsible for creating and sharing these deepfakes and why, they contend with the fact that virtually no laws exist to hold the perpetrator responsible nor to compel online platforms to remove the content. As generative AI tools make their way into mainstream society, it is critical that we use every available tool, including laws, to appropriately harness its benefits and mitigate its risks. This salon intends to provoke discussion about the lack of sufficient tools available to safely use this technology and prevent this kind of harm. This in-person, interactive conversation will analyze what steps are being taken to address that insufficiency and shine a light on what we can do to protect ourselves and others online.
