More than 5.7 million Michiganians voted in the general election last month — the highest voter turnout in the state’s history.
This milestone can be attributed in part to the strong voting policies Michigan has recently passed. In recent years, voters used the citizen-led initiative process to expand voter registration options, including expanded access to absentee ballots and the option to vote early in-person. In fact, of those 5.7 million Michiganians who voted in this year’s general election, more than half voted via absentee ballot or during the early voting period.
