GOP Senator Rand Paul’s religious litmus test for public service should alarm us all

Guthrie Graves-Fitzsimmon denounces Sen. Rand Paul's baseless opposition to Dilawar Syed’s nomination to serve as deputy administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Dilawar Syed, President Biden’s pick to serve as deputy administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), is obviously qualified for the job. He’s had a successful career as an entrepreneur running software, health care and artificial intelligence companies.

As the U.S. Chamber of Commerce noted in their endorsement of his nomination, “Dilawar Syed has an impressive background as an entrepreneur and understands the operational challenges of scaling a start-up to meet increased market demand.” The National Small Business Association has also backed his nomination, stating “He has faced the real-world struggles of growing a new venture, and he has also served a client-base made up of small businesses, learning what they need and how best to serve them.”
