RELEASE: American Progress Takes Silver at MarketingSherpa Email Awards 2011

Washington, D.C. – The Center for American Progress and Center for American Progress Action Fund won a silver award for best personalization/segmentation strategy at the MarketingSherpa 2011 Email Awards. MarketingSherpa is a research firm that specializes in tracking what’s working in the marketing world. The award was presented at the annual MarketingSherpa summit being held in Las Vegas.

American Progress “was chosen for demonstrating how maintaining a high quality contact list along with sending targeted email messages to the right audience can have a huge impact,” said lead judge Justine Bridegan, marketing manager, MECLABS Primary Research.

American Progress’s email marketing program connects policy ideas with those individuals best able to advance our ideas through highly targeted and segmented emails. The program sent more than 3,300 separate email batches in 2010 including policy alerts, event invitations, newsletters including CAP Action’s “The Progress Report,” and donor updates. These batches achieved above average performance rates e.g., open rates. Beyond the sheer quantity of email successfully sent, however, is the program’s ability to micro-target policy content to the leading influencers in and out of government.

“Email marketing has played a critical role in expanding our influence over the last seven years by ensuring that Capitol Hill influencers, supporters, the media, academics, and online activists in Washington, D.C. and beyond are constantly connected to the work we do,” said Neera Tanden, American Progress’ Chief Operating Officer. She added, “We are excited that this team, which has been critical to our mission, has been recognized for their hard work.”

American Progress’s email and marketing automation services are provided by Eloqua and constituent relationship management services by Salesforce.com.

Paul Teshima, SVP of Customer Strategy and Success at Eloqua said, "Eloqua has analyzed 10,000 months of our clients’ marketing data, which allows us to develop benchmarks for a variety of marketing practices. By truly understanding and applying targeting and segmentation strategies, American Progress is one of our top performing clients across multiple benchmarks.” American Progress won a 2010 Markie Award for driving measurable results through social media from Eloqua last fall.

"Working with the American Progress to enable their continued success is an honor for Salesforce.com,” said Matt Miszewski, SVP and GM of Global Public Sector at Salesforce.com. “Their deployment of Salesforce CRM showcases the incredible power cloud computing can bring to policy making."

American Progress finished second in the personalization/segmentation category behind Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure, which also won a best of show award. Details on the award can be found in “MarketingSherpa Email Awards 2011 Special Report,” which is available for download at:
