Washington, D. C. — On Thursday, January 22, the Center for American Progress and ProgressNow Nevada will be releasing a first-of-its-kind report examining the scope of gun violence against women in Nevada; the report will be released at a press conference hosted by ProgressNow Nevada. The report concludes that because of current weaknesses in Nevada state law, women in Nevada are highly vulnerable to future violence, namely because of laws that allow dangerous domestic abusers and stalkers to access guns.

  • Nevada ranks eighth worst in the country for the rate at which women are murdered by guns.
  • Between 2003 and 2012, 40 percent of women murdered in Nevada were killed by an intimate partner; of those killed by an intimate partner, 50 percent were killed with guns.
  • In Nevada, women account for 19.5 percent of all firearm homicide victims.
  • 48.1 percent of women living in Nevada will experience rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.
