ADVISORY: CAP to Host Rep. Cicilline, Top Experts, for Discussion on Combination of Hate Crimes and Gun Violence

Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress will host a conversation with U.S. Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) and leading experts on the growing use of guns as the weapon of choice for hate criminals and violent extremists. The attack last summer on the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, by a white supremacist who targeted the historic black church exemplified the increasing use of guns in crimes of hate and bias. The event will look at this trend and the impact of these crimes on affected communities while offering new ideas for policy solutions to help keep communities safe from violent extremists armed with guns.
