Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress will host a panel of leaders with experience working on cooperation between the United States and key Middle East partners, including former Acting Director and Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Michael Morell; former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral James “Sandy” Winnefeld; and Dina Kawar and Yousef Al Otaiba, the Jordanian and United Arab Emirates ambassadors to the United States, respectively.
During the past decade, the United States and its partners in the Middle East have undertaken numerous diplomatic, military, and intelligence efforts together to enhance regional stability and combat terrorist threats from groups such as Al Qaeda and the Islamic State. This experience has provided the United States and its regional partners many important lessons about the most effective ways to build partnerships. This panel will examine the lessons learned and discuss future strategies for building those partnerships.
