Restoring Social Trust in Democracy
Washington, D.C. — Today, after President Donald Trump announced that he will replace Kristi Noem as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
Kristi Noem was the face of an out-of-control agency that flouted the law and endangered the lives of Americans. She leaves behind a record of mismanagement, malfeasance, and scandal. Unfortunately, a change in leadership at DHS isn’t enough to keep Americans safe from Trump’s dangerous and reckless immigration agenda. Congress must pass commonsense reforms to rein in DHS abuses, protect our rights, and keep our communities safe.
