Strengthening Health
Washington, D.C. — Following today’s vote to advance House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ Affordable Care Act (ACA) discharge petition, Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
What Minority Leader Jeffries and his caucus have accomplished is remarkable: advancing a clean, bipartisan, three-year extension of the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits to reverse a massive spike in health care premium costs. A majority of Congress has now gone on record in support of extending the tax credits, with 17 Republicans taking the unprecedented step of affirmatively voting to strengthen the Affordable Care Act. Americans want lower health care costs, and Congress now has the votes to deliver. Now the Senate can either protect the health care of more than 20 million Americans or be responsible for premium costs more than doubling this year.
