Strengthening Health
Washington, D.C. — Following the release of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s portion of the tax and budget bill being assembled by House Republicans, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released analysis finding that 13.7 million more Americans would be uninsured than under current health care policies. Andrea Ducas, vice president of Health Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
House Republicans released this plan in the dead of night on Mother’s Day because they do not want the American people to know the facts about the radical budget bill they’re planning to vote on in the coming hours and days. A new analysis from the nonpartisan CBO confirms that nearly 14 million more Americans would be forced to live without health insurance than if current policies were to remain in effect. This report is just the latest confirmation that House Republicans’ partisan tax and budget bill would rip away health care from the most vulnerable in order to lavish even more tax breaks on billionaires. If enacted, countless Americans could die, live sicker, or spend the rest of their lives drowning in medical debt, which is why Congress must reject this cruel plan. The American people need to call their members of Congress and make their voices heard.
