Denzel Cummings

Denzel Cummings was a communications coordinator with the Center for American Progress.

Cummings moved to Washington, D.C., in 2015 as an Emerson national policy fellow for the Coalition for Community Schools and Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania. His primary duties included tracking, analyzing, and creating documents for federal legislation, regulation, and guidance as they relate to moving the community schools policies agenda as well as assisting in planning and organizing advocacy for the national field.

In his undergraduate career, Cummings helped co-found the Black Ivy Coalition, a coalition of minority student leaders across all eight Ivy League schools and several other institutions, which has been featured in several publications. Cummings also served as co-chair of UMOJA, the umbrella group for the African diaspora at the University of Pennsylvania, through which he worked on several projects with the president’s and vice provost’s office regarding faculty and diversity; conversations regarding race on campus; and police and community relations.

Cummings graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, politics, and economics with a distributive justice concentration.
