Anne Knapke is a senior fellow at American Progress. Knapke brings more than two decades of experience advancing food and nutrition security. She most recently served as deputy chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Agriculture during the Biden administration. Prior to that, Knapke served on Capitol Hill as legislative director for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), where she led work on agriculture and rural policy.
Earlier in her career, Knapke held senior roles at the Meridian Institute, where she led strategy at the intersection of climate and agriculture, and at the Gates Foundation, where she focused on global nutrition and agricultural development.
Knapke helps drive the development of a comprehensive policy agenda for rural America at American Progress. Her work includes engaging stakeholders across sectors, building coalitions, developing policy strategies, and providing guidance to policymakers to advance American Progress’ rural agenda.
Originally from southwest Ohio, Knapke is a graduate of The Ohio State University and holds master’s degrees in public policy and social service administration from The University of Chicago. She lives in Washington, D.C.
