Until the 1960s, legal migration to the United States for Black immigrants was almost entirely impossible. But today, Black immigrants are one of the fastest-growing demographics in the United States and represent an increasing share of the overall Black population in the country. Many Black immigrants come to the United States through family reunification visas, the Refugee Resettlement Program, and the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, while others come as students, seek asylum, or have Temporary Protected Status.
