Washington, D.C. — Now more than ever, states and districts have a critical role to play in moving the TeachStrong agenda forward by supporting and strengthening the quality of the teaching workforce to ensure that all students, especially those from low-income families, are taught by great teachers.
At a Center for American Progress event, the TeachStrong coalition will be joined by Rep. Susan Davis (D-CA), who—along with Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-VA) and 10 other committee members—recently introduced a bill to elevate the teaching profession through innovations in teacher recruitment and retention. During this event, Rep. Davis will discuss this legislation and the potential impact of President Donald Trump’s proposed budget cuts on the ability of states and districts to adequately train, compensate, and support their teacher workforce. A distinguished panel of experts will hold an in-depth discussion on how states, districts, and colleges of education are leading the way in improving the systems designed to support teachers at every stage of their careers.
TeachStrong is the campaign to make modernizing and elevating the teaching profession the top education policy priority of our time. The TeachStrong coalition includes a diverse set of more than 65 influential education organizations. Together, we seek to amplify an ambitious vision for a society that truly values teachers as professionals, which we believe will eventually lead to improved teaching and learning, particularly for low-income students.
