EVENT ADVISORY: CAP to Host Leading Business Leaders to Discuss Strong Work-Life Policies

Washington, D.C. — On the 25th anniversary of the signing of the landmark Family and Medical Leave Act, finding a strong work-life balance is more important than ever. The challenge of navigating the competing demands of work and family is an issue that affects families across all economic levels and in every job sector. Without effective policy solutions that enable workers to fulfill their responsibilities at work and at home, too many workers have to make impossible choices between caring for family and ensuring their economic security.

A growing number of businesses have found that strong work-life policies are essential to doing business effectively and profitably in a modern economy. Such policies are critical for businesses to retain talented workers and minimize turnover costs, as well as provide an orderly process for accommodating family and medical caregiving needs. Moreover, businesses have seen firsthand the economic benefits of strong work-life policies in terms of increasing productivity and enhancing competitiveness in an increasingly global economy.

On Monday, February 5, at 10:30 a.m., the Center for American Progress will host a conversation with influential business leaders about the importance of maintaining a strong work-life balance. The panelists will discuss their experience creating workplaces that are responsive to the needs of all families.
