Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected President Donald Trump’s illegal plan to alter the process for sending mail ballots to voters just weeks before the midterm elections. In response, Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
This decision ensures the existing rules for mail ballots can remain in place for the November election, avoiding what could have been a total disaster for voters and our democratic process. But while the justices did the right thing today, it doesn’t change the absurdity of Trump’s attempt to derail mail-in ballot procedures. This whole effort has only sown confusion among voters and created uncertainty. Such tactics are part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to undermine trust in our elections. We must remain vigilant in the coming weeks and months.
