America’s immigration system has been broken for far too long. Congressional inaction going back decades has resulted in an antiquated legal framework that has failed to keep pace with our economic needs and changing global trends. Instead of implementing sensible policies, the Trump administration is systematically pursuing a cruel and reckless agenda, gutting legal immigration pathways, and deploying indiscriminate enforcement tactics that have a total disregard for human life. And many of those most at risk under President Donald Trump’s mass deportation campaigns are immigrants who have lived in this country for decades, contributing to our economy and raising their families here. These actions by the administration are bringing chaos and terror to our communities, undermining the rule of law, and hampering economic growth.
Americans deserve a modern immigration system that is consistent with our values and serves our economic needs. Please join the Center for American Progress and America’s Voice to hear from Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) on the urgent need for accountability and commonsense immigration policies, for Nevada and the nation.
Sen. Cortez Masto has long fought for immigration reform that serves the national interest. She is a third-generation Nevadan who became the first Latina elected as a U.S. senator after serving as Nevada’s attorney general and as a federal prosecutor. Sen. Cortez Masto has led legislative efforts to provide a path to citizenship for Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and other immigrants, while also fighting for commonsense guardrails to ensure accountability at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
A light breakfast will be provided.
