STATEMENT: Another Senseless Killing Is Direct Result of Trump’s Lawless Crackdown

Washington, D.C. — Today, after reports that federal law enforcement agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis, Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

The open lawlessness of Donald Trump’s federal occupation of American cities is a direct threat to public safety. The latest killing—along with the death of Renee Good—should never have happened because this federal force in Minnesota is not needed for any reason. This death is the result of an out-of-control federal agency operating without heed for human life. There must be a full independent state investigation into both deaths. The American people deserve answers from their government.

My thoughts are with the victim, his family, and the people of Minnesota. The best way to counter these abuses at the hand of the Trump administration are large peaceful protests. All leaders—from all walks of life and both political parties—must speak out against the violence of the Trump administration against the people of Minnesota.
