Washington, D.C. — Former White House Economic Policy Adviser Chad Maisel is joining the Center for American Progress as a senior fellow for economic policy starting in October.
At CAP, Maisel will focus on housing policy, affordability, and economic mobility. He served as special assistant to the president on the White House Domestic Policy Council during the Biden-Harris administration, helping lead the administration’s work on housing supply, housing affordability, and homelessness. He also advanced initiatives to narrow the racial wealth gap and designed cross-agency efforts to protect consumers from unfair practices that waste Americans’ time and money.
“Chad brings a wealth of experience in government and expertise across economic policy issues,” said Emily Gee, senior vice president for Inclusive Growth at CAP. “I’m excited he’ll be joining CAP to spearhead our efforts to make housing more affordable for American families.”
Before joining the Biden administration, Maisel was chief economic policy adviser to Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), covering tax, labor, banking, competition, and small-business policy. He also served in the Obama administration in roles at the White House National Economic Council, the Office of Management and Budget, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where his work focused on economic development and poverty policy.
Maisel is also a policy fellow at Stanford’s Institute for Economic Policy Research and a visiting fellow at Groundwork Collaborative.
Maisel holds a master of public affairs from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs and a B.A. from Emory University.
