Strengthening Health
Washington, D.C. — Today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report confirming that proposals under consideration by congressional Republicans to enact as much as $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid would result in massive losses to health coverage and/or benefits for millions of Americans. In response, Andrea Ducas, vice president of Health Policy at the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:
Rather than working to improve the Medicaid program, congressional Republicans are continuing a 15-year-old fight to repeal the Affordable Care Act. This new CBO report confirms that each of congressional Republicans’ latest proposals would kick millions of the most vulnerable Americans off their health care, all to pay for tax giveaways for the president’s billionaire donors. Crafting health care policy is not an academic exercise; for tens of thousands of Americans, it’s a matter of life or death. Congressional Republicans should abandon their rushed process to rip away health coverage or risk a health or financial catastrophe for countless Americans.
