Building an Economy for All
Washington, D.C. — Today, House Republicans voted to approve a budget resolution shaping forthcoming tax and spending legislation. In response, Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:
By passing this budget resolution, congressional Republicans have betrayed America’s middle class to the benefit of the president’s billionaire donors. This budget plan will increase inflation and put homeownership further out of reach by exploding the national debt and raising energy prices. It also increases the likelihood that Congress makes huge cuts to health care and food assistance that will crush working families and make it harder for Americans to weather an increasingly likely Trump recession. To make matters worse, today’s vote comes just hours after House Republicans voted to rubber-stamp the president’s tariffs that will raise costs for families by more than $4,000 a year. The American people can’t afford this reckless economic agenda.
