Take Action: Save Medicaid To Protect Health Care for Millions

Medicaid provides health insurance for nearly 1 in 5 Americans, including pregnant women, seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income individuals. The program makes it possible for 72 million people to see a doctor when sick, afford their medications, and receive vital long-term care, among other services.

But right now, Medicaid is under threat. Congressional Republicans are advancing a budget plan that could lead to at least $880 billion in cuts from the Medicaid program over the next decade. While it is not yet clear how the cuts will be achieved, among the proposals being discussed are plans to shrink federal funding for states to finance their Medicaid programs and to make it more onerous for enrollees to stay covered—including through wasteful, ineffective work requirements. These changes would slash funding and take coverage away from those who need it most. They would also force states to make up for the shortfall by raising taxes, restricting eligibility, cutting benefits such as assisted living services for people with disabilities, and reducing payments to providers, and they would leave hospitals struggling with more unpaid medical bills. Even worse, these cuts would not just hurt families; they are being proposed to help finance tax breaks for billionaires and wealthy corporations.

We cannot let this happen. Tell your representatives in Congress to reject efforts to cut Medicaid. Demand that they stand with working families—not billionaires—and protect health care that millions rely on.
