Immigrants are vital to our economy, families, and our communities. Approximately 5 million undocumented immigrants--including more than 550,000 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders--have worked alongside their fellow Americans on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic response, helping to lift up major sectors of the workforce and keeping our country running.
Yet despite their personal sacrifice and service throughout this pandemic, they and their families continue to live each day with fear and uncertainty about their future in the United States.
Recently, a federal judge in Texas ruled against the DACA program, shutting the door on tens of thousands of young immigrants and leaving hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients in continued legal limbo. This latest DACA ruling is evidence that the program is not enough and, without action from Congress, Dreamers across the country remain vulnerable to the next attack.
Senate leadership has proposed including a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in their budget resolution. Now is our chance to pass long-overdue protections, which an overwhelming majority of Americans support. Congress must enact legislation that creates a pathway to citizenship for every immigrant who calls this country home.
With your help, we can make citizenship for immigrants who call this country home a reality. Will you join us?
