STATEMENT: CAP’s John Podesta Praises Frances Colón’s Nomination to PCAST

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Biden administration announced the nomination of Frances Colón to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). In response, John Podesta, Center for American Progress founder and member of the Board of Directors, issued the following statement:

Frances will bring a smart perspective to PCAST on the intersection of climate science and international climate policy, as well as insights into the impacts of climate change on the Latino community. Her nomination puts the future of federal climate science in good hands. She has been a strong leader during her tenure at CAP, in previous positions in government, and as a climate action advocate in Florida. I am thrilled to see her nominated for this critical role advising on President Joe Biden’s scientific agenda. After the previous administration so deeply rejected science in every corner of government, there is a lot of building back to do—and quickly. This is particularly true for global climate science as we work urgently to transform our economy at a pace commensurate with the changes we’re already seeing around us.
