STATEMENT: CAP’s John Podesta Praises Biden Commitment to International Climate Finance

Washington, D.C. — In response to President Joe Biden’s announcement that the United States would double its commitment to the $100 billion global climate fund, Center for American Progress founder John Podesta released the following statement:

As our climate crisis intensifies, the world needs strong leadership toward a clean, safe future. Global leaders made a $100 billion per year commitment to finance and climate action in emerging economies, but so far, we have fallen short. We applaud the Biden administration’s pledge to double its commitment to help fund the global transition to a clean economy and enhance climate adaptation. Especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, effective and efficient climate finance will help the whole world meet its climate goals and keep the 1.5 degree target within reach. We hope to see all the developed nations of the world link arms and increase the ambition of their commitment to addressing this shared threat to our common prosperity. This pledge is just the beginning.
