STATEMENT: CAP Congratulates Taryn Mackenzie Williams on Her Confirmation as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy

Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, the U.S. Senate confirmed Taryn Mackenzie Williams to be assistant secretary of labor for disability employment policy. For the past two years, Williams has served as the managing director of the Poverty to Prosperity Program at the Center for American Progress. Following her confirmation, Mara Rudman, executive vice president for policy at CAP, issued the following statement:

Taryn came to CAP because she has a never-ending curiosity for research, policy, and practice. What sets her apart is her ability to teach and her strength as a manager. She is leaving a lasting impact on CAP, including through our Disability Justice Initiative and Poverty to Prosperity Program. Her passion for disability rights has helped shift expectations and stereotypes, particularly around disability employment. While we will miss her at CAP, we are excited for her to bring her steady leadership and deep knowledge of disability justice and economic mobility to the Department of Labor. Congratulations Taryn!
