Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Res. 908. Introduced by Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), the resolution condemns all forms of anti-Asian sentiment related to COVID-19. Following the passage of the resolution, Danyelle Solomon, vice president of Race and Ethnicity Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
This year, Asian Americans have not only had to worry about falling ill from COVID-19, but have also faced increased threats to their safety and well-being from a new wave of anti-Asian American hate and violence.
Elected leaders have an important role to play in combating misinformation and keeping our communities safe. I applaud Rep. Meng and the House of Representatives for condemning anti-Asian American racism. I join them in asking other elected officials—from the White House to local governments across America—to stand up against racism, hate, and violence. We must all stand together against hate and intolerance.
