Washington, D.C. — After Steven Menashi’s nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit advanced to a final vote in the U.S. Senate, Maggie Jo Buchanan, director of Legal Progress at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
Any senator who votes to confirm Steve Menashi to a lifetime appointment to the 2nd Circuit will be voting in support of his extremist views and his acts while serving in the Trump administration that have harmed students, women, and immigrants. They will also be helping President Donald Trump corrupt the judiciary even as serious impeachment proceedings more forward in the House. The 2nd Circuit will be issuing important decisions in the weeks and months to come on cases related to President Trump’s business dealings and acts while in government. With Menashi on the bench, the president will have a political aide to try to prevent such transparency.
