STATEMENT: Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Proposal to Undo Pay Data Collection Reform Is An Enormous Step Backward from a Real Commitment to Equal Pay, Says CAP’s Jocelyn Frye

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission released a proposed rule indicating its intent to roll back Component 2 of the EEO-1 Form, which would undo reforms requiring employers to collect data on workers’ pay and hours. Jocelyn Frye, senior fellow with the Women’s Initiative at the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:

Moving forward to discontinue pay data collection makes unequivocally clear this Administration’s lack of commitment to eradicating pay discrimination. Not only has this administration failed to put forward compelling proposals to ensure equal pay and help close the gender pay gap, but this move will exacerbate these disparities, inflicting further harm to women and families. To do this in the name of protecting corporations that have already been lavished with Trump’s tax cuts is despicable.
