STATEMENT: House Passage of Health Care Bill Would Improve Access to Health Coverage, Lower Costs

Washington, D.C. — Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act. The bipartisan bill would reverse the Trump administration’s health care sabotage and take the first steps toward lowering the cost of prescription drugs. Topher Spiro, vice president of Health Policy and senior fellow at CAP, released the following statement in response to the bill’s passage:

The American people sent a resounding message last November that they want policymakers to improve access to health care and lower the cost of prescription drugs. The bill passed by the U.S. House takes critical first steps to reversing the Trump administration’s health care sabotage and making the cost of care more affordable for working families. It is incumbent upon new leaders in Congress to build upon these efforts by passing comprehensive drug pricing reform and taking additional steps to improve the affordability of health coverage in the coming months. We look forward to working with them to make these goals a reality.
