STATEMENT: Vote to End Support for Yemen War Is a Step in the Right Direction, CAP’s Kelly Magsamen Says

Washington, D.C. — After the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution to end U.S. support for the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen, Kelly Magsamen, vice president of National Security and International Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

Today, Congress reasserted its oversight of wars fought in the name of the American people. This vote was a strong bipartisan expression of American values when it comes to the use of our military. The president would be wise to support it. While this vote alone will not end the conflict in Yemen, it is a major step in the right direction for U.S. policy. Now, Congress must also use its power to support the diplomacy necessary to end this conflict as well as the humanitarian resources necessary to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
