STATEMENT: Eric Murphy’s Troubling Record Shows He Can’t Be Trusted with 6th Circuit Seat, CAP’s Jake Faleschini Says

Washington, D.C. – As the Senate prepares to vote on the nomination of Eric Murphy for a seat on the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Jake Faleschini, director of the Federal Courts Program at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

Eric Murphy has spent much of his career working to undermine key protections for civil rights, women’s rights and voting rights. He defended a massive purge of Ohio’s voter rolls that has disenfranchised thousands of people of color. He also backed Ohio’s efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and defended the state’s ban on same-sex marriage. Murphy’s troubling record shows that he would roll back the clock on civil rights and can’t be trusted to serve as a fair-minded and impartial judge.
