STATEMENT: 4th National Climate Assessment Is Another Call to Climate Action

Washington, D.C. — Responding to today’s release of the fourth federal National Climate Assessment, Christy Goldfuss, senior vice president of Energy and Environment Policy, issued the following statement:

Today’s report from more than 300 of our nation’s independent scientists again confirms that we must urgently act on climate. Year after year, we see record-breaking hurricane seasons along our coasts and devastating wildfires in the West. Every moment of inaction makes the solutions to preventing the worst impacts—and responding to current ones—more challenging and expensive. Even as President Donald Trump, Acting Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, and their fossil fuel allies continue to deny the science and blame environmentalists, it is critical that the newly elected leaders at all levels of government work to build their resilience to these impacts and act to reduce climate pollution.
