Washington, D.C. — After President Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate acting Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler as the permanent head of the agency, Christy Goldfuss, senior vice president for Energy and Environment Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
Andrew Wheeler has continued in Scott Pruitt’s footsteps, advancing a big polluter agenda that rejects science and endangers our health and public safety. Wheeler is a former coal lobbyist who is a poor choice to lead the EPA and, if confirmed, will continue the Trump administration’s culture of corruption by putting polluters and their lobbyists in charge. We need an EPA administrator who will work to prioritize the mission of the agency to protect our health and well-being, not someone that Scott Pruitt hand-picked to do the bidding of fossil fuel executives.
